The cure to anxiety is action
I've come across many people, including myself, who sometimes just feel paralysed when we have to undertake a seemingly big task, idea, or project. It's a real mountain to climb. The thought of putting ones' shoes on to start the journey can be daunting.
I've realised that once you actually start something, no matter how difficult or complicated it is, you learn a lot. The nettles, how steep the mountain is, the creatures you encounter along the way uncover a lot. You learn a lot about yourself, you learn a lot about people, through a whole new world you didn't know existed. But you wouldn't have known these things unless you embarked on the journey.
I used to always think about the end result a lot of the times. Wanting to be a millionaire, wanting to complete a 4 year degree and become a qualified Islamic Scholar. But then what? This type of thinking breeds ingratitude. The journey of becoming a millionaire, a scholar (in whatever field) - the journey of becoming someone big, that in itself is something that requires action.
I'll leave us all a point to reflect on: how many times have you given yourself this false spike of dopamine by talking about your big goals, dreams, objectives? Did you succeed in fooling yourselves and the people around you that you're doing something? Or was it all talk?
The thought of becoming someone like that scares me. It causes me to remain silent about what I want to achieve. But should it? Or should I let my actions do the talking?
